Kale chips

Did you start a new year’s resolution and now you’re craving potato chips? Make these kale chips. Even if you’re not trying to better your health, make these kale chips because they’re delicious. Let’s get into it:

The Recipe:

  • 1 bunch of kale (we used the curly kale), ribs removed, leaves torn into bite-sized pieces
  • 1t garlic powder
  • 1/2t crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/4t salt
  • 1/2t black pepper
  • 1/4t nutritional yeast (optional)
  • Parchment-lined baking sheets
  • A 350° oven

*************************************************************************************

Toss the kale with some olive oil so the spices will stick, then get the spices on there. Spread the kale onto the sheets in a nice even layer and bake until crispy. Start checking the kale after 10 minutes for crispiness (it does burn quite quickly if you’re not diligent).

Feel free to go crazy with your spice pantry on this one. Here in the midwest we have unlimited supplies of ranch dressing powder, and that would be tasty! Smoked or hot paprika would be delightful. Maybe go a little south of the border with cumin and coriander. Cross even more borders by tossing on harissa or curry powder. Go WILD with some cinnamon and nutmeg! (Don’t do that one, that’s gross. Kale shouldn’t be sweet.) Have fun!
