M&M cookie bars

Just absolutely perfect for the holidays, especially since red and green M&Ms* are sold separately from the other colors. Let’s get into it:

The Recipe:

  • 1/2 cup (one stick) softened butter
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 2t vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1t baking soda
  • 1t salt
  • 1 cup mini chocolate chips (or regular, they’re your bars)
  • 1 cup M&Ms (red and green if that’s your jam)
  • A 375° oven
  • Parchment paper
  • A tray with a lip
  • Chocolate ganache or melted chocolate (optional)
  • White nonpareils (optional as well)

*************************************************************************************

Cream the butter and sugars together until very fluffy and pale. Add the vanilla and eggs and beat it up.

Dump the dry ingredients in and mix until almost entirely combined. Add the chocolate chips and M&Ms and mix until incorporated.

Line your tray with parchment paper and push all the dough into a nice layer. It should be about 1/2 or 3/4 inch thick.

Bake 17-20 minutes, until lightly golden brown.

Once cool, cut into appropriately sized bars.

Drizzle with melted chocolate and throw on a few nonpareils if desired.

The best way to spread Christmas cheer is baking well, without any fear. (That’s the quote, right?)

*Dear Mars Incorporated, if I’m supposed to say “chocolate candies” instead of M&Ms, please send an email to spreademthick@gmail.com. Thank you.
